i am a lifestyle natural light photographer who specializes in newborn photography. i am a hippie at heart. love the country, barefeet, the light at sunset, a warm summer day, listening to my boys giggle as they play. i love a barn and field, despite being a city girl at heart… to me imperfect is perfectly perfect and imperfectly perfect equals real.
i am a photojournalist, not a portrait photographer. lifestyle photography is my thing. since as far back as i can remember i always looked at the world as though i was looking through a lens. i never see things the way others do and everything is a photograph.
born to a mother of an artist, maybe it was just suppose to be that i would make a career of the arts. however, for me the arts were not always my interest. a former college athlete, i picked up the camera after surgeries ended my playing days and started shooting sports to fill the playing void.
after spending time as the director of photography to the university of minnesota’s athletic department, i started my family which triggered my new muse… photographing newborns, babies and children. before the birth of my son I traveled the country shooting college sports and loved it. its a total rush… you feel part of the action. it is sweaty and action packed!
however, something was missing for me and i found it with the birth of my son. i did not want to miss a thing so i photographed him every second. Then with the birth of my second son i continued to document every moment and the relationship that they share as brothers.
newborns change so fast, and babies become toddlers overnight and then the next thing you know they are independent little people. why miss capturing the memories, right?
now i travel between northwest arkansas and seattle, washington (my original hometown, with both my boys in tow… photographing newborns, children and families in a way that i hope is anything but traditional.
